The ignorance meme

What is it with this ignorance meme that has really grown in the Internet? It did exist before but it seems to be everywhere since the Internet. I try to discuss issues of the day, say, North Korea's nuclear ambitions. I say "it's just a natural evoulution of the state of war..." Interupted with "what war? the war is over". I say "no. The war is under a cease fire, a long one yes, and the 38th parallel is the front line and..." Interupted again, "No the 38th parallel is the border not any front line." Then I go into an explanation of how the war evolved into what we have now. The person doesn't know Macarthur was in the Korean war, Thinks Inchon is in the Philipeans and says I can't know more that him because I wasn't born then. Well I wasn't born in the Roman Empire either but I know somthing about it. And I know Macarthur was in Korea and Inchon was the first battle of the Korean war. Another example A "conservative", gun nut, NRA member, Loves Charlton Heston, has "all" Charlton Heston's movies. I mention "The Omega Man". Charlton Heston's most gun happy movie. He's never heard of it. I think maybe he just doesnt recognize the title. So I describe the movie. Zombie apocalypse, white hair, white eyes, mirror sunglases, black robes with hoods. Nope doesn't ring a bell. "You've heard of "I am legend"? "Yea, sure. Will Smith. Based on an earlier movie". "Yea, right. a couple of earlier movies. The earliest one was "The Last Man on Earth"... "Yea with Vincent Price and zombies and..." I say "You know these other movies, you collect Charlton Heston movies. You have "Planet of The Apes? Soylent Green?", "Yea, my favorites of his movies.". "You know he only made 3 science fiction movies? One of which was "the Omega Man". The Omega Man zombies are a pop cultural type of zombie. They've been depicted on "South Park" "Saturday Night Live". "Nope, never heard of it". Sometimes it's like trying to talk a foriegn language to these people. I don't buy it. It's just another form of the meme of evasion. I think it's an adolescent mentality of self delusion. They delude themselves that because evasion works in conversation with people of equal ignorance it should work...
