Ribozymes

I understand that Ribozymes are a candidate for the first life form. I believe the reason for this is because they are one of the simplest things that have the potential to self replicate. This is kind of a pre-protein organism. Also pre-dna. Are there any other organisms that are candidates for the first life form?
