Whats more common when dealing with asteroids?

Recovered historical discussion from Whats more common when dealing with asteroids?.

In matters pretaining to their motion- do asteroids tend to spin or no? Is speed a factor? Archived source: https://web.archive.org/web/20121203223835/http://www.spacetimeandtheuniverse.com:80/general-physics/5536-whats-more-common-when-dealing-asteroids.html

Yes, they rotate (spin). Their orbital velocity is not a factor in their rotation.

Is it assumed their rotation is determined at some point via a collision?

The following may be of some little use: Asteroid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It probably does not fully answer your question. A proper study would involve compiling the statistics of asteroid rotation and examining them for correlation with, among other things, orbital parameters and radius. Maybe such a study exists somewhere but I am unaware of it.
